Marlene van Niekerk

Biography

Marlene Van Niekerk was born on a farm near Caledon, South Africa in 1954. She studied languages and philosophy at Stellenbosch University and obtained a M.A. She initially wrote plays at university and then went to Germany to learn directing. She took a Ph. D. in philosophy from the University of Amsterdam. She has since taught at various South African universities. She has written four plays (unpublished), poetry, stories and novels.
