Rafael Chirbes

Biography

Rafael Chirbes was born in Tabernes de Valldigna, near Valencia in 1949. He studied modern history in Madrid before working as a journalist. He taught Spanish in Morocco (the basis for his first novel and the only one published in English till En la orilla (On the Edge) was published in 2016), and lived in Paris before returning to Spain. As well as writing novels, he has continued as a journalist, writing on literature, travel and food. He died in 2015.
