Biography

Alexandr Kliment (real name Alexandr Klimentiev – his father was a Russian immigrant)was born in 1929 in Turnov. His mother was Czech. His father worked as a gemstone cutter. Kliment studied.medicine and art history at the Academy of Fine Arts but he did not complete his studies. After doing his military service, he worked as an editor and then became a full-time writer.

He did not emigrate after the events of 1968 but was unable to publish because he had signedCharter 77. He worked in various odd jobs, and lived off his foreign fees. He was not able to work properly again till 1984.

He wrote novels, short stories, poetry and film scripts. Two of his novels have been published in English though more have been published in German. He died in 2017.
