Alexei Ivanov

Biography

Alexei Ivanov was born in 1969 in Nizhny Novgorod. His family were shipbuilding engineers. The family moved to Perm in 1971, where he grew up. He studied journalism at the Ural State University. He left the university but then returned to study art history. He needed to show that he was working but later admitted that he forged the papers proving this. After university, he started writing stories and worked at various jobs. While working as a tour guide, he became interested in local history, an interest which can be seen in his later writing. His third novel –(Сердце Пармы [Hearts of Parma] about Perm in the mid-fourteenth century was his breakthrough and became a best-seller. He went on to write successful novels and stories. One of his novels became a successful film. One of his novels has been translated into English and two into French.
