Chiew-Siah Tei

Biography

Chiew-Siah Tei was born and raised in Tampin, in southern Malaysia. She wrote in Malaysian Chinese-language publications on a variety of topics before publishing a book on her stay in Scotland and a collection of reviews. In 1994, she went to Scotland to read for an M. Phil. in film studies at the University of Glasgow. She also wrote the screenplay for a short film. After going back to Malaysia, she returned to Glasgow to read for a Ph. D. She wrote a play – Three Thousand Troubled Threads – staged at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2005 and then wrote her first novel in English.
