Biography
Jan Křesadlo was born Václav Jaroslav Karel Pinkava in1926. After secondary school from which he was temporary expelled for mocking the Germans during the German occupation, he studied at the Business Academy before returning to the secondary school where we graduated with honours in Greek. He studied in English and French at Charles University in Prague. His studies were interrupted when he was arrested for organising an uprising but eventually acquitted for lack of evidence. However, he was expelled from university as a class enemy and worked three years on a trout farm. After military service, he returned to university to study psychology and then became a clinical psychologist.
After the uprising and Russian invasion, he emigrated to Britain with his wife and four chilcren and continued to work as a clinical psychologist.
He published his first bookMrchopěvci (Gravelarks). Which received awards. As well as writing fiction, he wrote poetry and composed music. His poetry included an epic science fiction poem of more than 6500 lines ancient Greek with Czech translation. He died in 1995.
