Biography

Berhane Mariam Sahle Sellassie was born in 1936. He is from the Chaha branch of the Gurage tribe. He attended University College in Addis Ababa before continuing his studies in France and the United States. He has since worked as a translator. His first novel was written in the Chaha language, using Amharic script. However, as no-one else is literate in that language, it was immediately translated into English.
