Cheikh Hamidou Kane

Biography

Cheikh Hamidou Kane was born in Matam in 1928. After obtaining his baccalauréat, he studied law and literature in Paris. After graduating he returned to Senegal, where he held senior civil servant positions. In 1960 he was named Governor of the Thiès region and in 1961 principal private secretary to the minister of planning and development. At this time he published his novelised autobiography, which he had stared writing in 1952. He published a follow-up in 1995.
