Tayeb Salih

Biography

Tayeb Salih was born in Karmokol, near al-Debba and Merowe in the North of Sudan in 1929. He studied at the University of Khartoum and then at the university of London. He then returned to Sudan where he taught, worked for the BBC and Sudan radio and then was the director of Qatar’s information service. He later worked for UNESCO. He has written novels, short stories and non-fiction. He died in 2009.
