Biography

NoViolet Bulawayo was born Elizabeth Tshele in 1981 in Tsholotsho, Zimbabwe. She completed her secondary education in Zimbabwe and then went to Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She then earned a B.A. from Texas A&M University-Commerce and an M.A. Southern Methodist University before taking an M.F.A. from Cornell, where she subsequently taught. She won the Caine Prize for African Writing in 2011 for her short story Hitting Budapest. She has since written two novels.
