Alejandro Zambra

Biography

Alejandro Zambra was born in 1975 in Villa Portales and was initially brought up in Valparaíso and Villa Alemana. When he was five his family moved to villa Las Terrazas, en Maipú. He studied Hispanic literature at the University of Chile and then did a postgraduate degree in Hispanic philology in Madrid. He later took a doctorate in literature at the Universidad Católica. He taught literature at the Universidad Diego Portales. He also edited a magazine and wrote for various publications. His first literary work was in poetry but he has since written stories, novels and essays. All four of his novels have been translated into English.
