Junot Díaz

Biography

Junot Díaz was born in Santo Domingo in 1968. The family moved to New Jersey, where his father was already working, when he was six. He was a keen reader and soon became interested in science fiction, something he shares with his hero, Oscar Wao. He majored in English at Rutgers. After working as an editorial assistant at Rutgers University Press, he took an MFA from Cornell, where he wrote his first stories. As well as writing short stories, he has written the critically acclaimed The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which a group of US critics named the best novel of the century so far.
