Ashraf El-Ashmawi

Biography

Ashraf El-Ashmawi was born in Dokki, Giza in 1966. He graduated from Cairo University with a B.A. in law. He worked as a judge in the courts of first instance from 2007 to 2008, and has been a member of the National Committee for the Recovery of Egyptian Antiquities Smuggled Out of the Country since 2007. He currently works as a consultant in the Cairo Court of Appeal. He started off writing articles in the newspapers but has since written nine novels, for which he has won awards, as well as a book called Legal Thefts: Stories of Thefts of Egyptian Antiquities, Their Smuggling and Attempts to Recover Them.
