Ahdaf Soueif

Biography

Ahdaf Soueif was born in 1950 in Cairo. As a child she lived in England for sometime while her mother was studying for her Ph. D. She returned to England to study for a doctorate in linguistics, after studying English literature at the University of Cairo, and remained there. Her books are written in English and only later translated into Arabic. She was married to the late Ian Hamilton. Their son is the writer Omar Robert Hamilton.
