Alia Mamdouh
Biography
Alia Mamdouh was born in Baghdad in 1944. Like the heroine of حبات من النفتالين (Mothballs; later: Naphthalene), she had an Iraqi father and a Syrian mother. She took a degree in psychology at the University of Mustansiriya and then left Iraq for Beirut. After a period in Palestine and London, she settled in Paris. She has written essays, short stories and novels, two of which have been translated into English
