Gafur Gulom

Biography

Gafur Gulom was born in Tashkent in 1903. His father died when he was nine. He was initially educated in an old style school but later transferred to a Russian-style school for non-Russians. He trained as a teacher and became a teacher before appointed the head of the curriculum department at an orphanage. During this time he was writing poetry, stories, novels, essays and satirical articles. He died in 1966.
