Biography

Note that his name in Pinyin is Jiang Gui but the most of the books by and about him in English use the Wade-Giles name Chiang Kuei

Chiang Kuei/Jiang Gui was born Wang Lingdu in Shandong in 1908. He was influenced by the 4th May movement and later joined the Kuomintang. He joined the Chinese army as an officer, fighting against the Japanese. He moved to Taiwan with the Kuomintang in 1948. He started writing in the 1950s and has written novels, stories and essays. He died in 1980.
