Kaori Ekuni was born in Setagaya, Tokyo in 1964. Her father, Shigeru Ekuni, was a well-known poet and essayist. After university, she studied in the United States for a year and then returned to Japan where she published her first children’s story. She initially wrote children’s stories but then went on to write for adults. She has won several prizes for her writing and has even been called the female Murakami. She has also translated children’s books from English.
