Gabriela Adameșteanu was born in Târgu Ocna in 1942. Her parents were teachers. Under the Communist regime her mother lost her job, her uncle was imprisoned and her aunt went into exile. She attended the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Literature and graduated with a thesis on Marcel Proust. She later worked as an editor, while writing. She made her name with Dimineață pierdută (Wasted Morning). She has written stories and novels.
