David Albahari

Biography

David Albahari was born in Peć in 1948. He published his first stories in 1982 but became better known in 1982 when his collection Opis smrti won the Andrić Award. He worked for the evacuation of the Jewish population from Sarajevo in 1991 and also started a petition to legalise marijuana in Yugoslavia. In 1994, he emigrated with his family to Calgary, Canada. He has written stories, novels and essays and poetry. He died in 2023.
