Oleg Shynkarenko
Biography
Oleg Shynkarenko was born in 1976 in Zaporizhzhia. He graduated from the Zaporizhia Engineering Academy (in automation and control and measuring devices engineering), Classical Private University (English translation) and the International Academy of Journalism in Hamburg. He has worked both as an engineer and journalist. He has also been involved in film, radio and producing podcasts.
He started writing stories at a young age and has been influenced by science fiction, post-modernism and the grotesque. His first novel – Кагарлик (Kaharlyk) – was written in 2013 and published the following year. It has been translated into English. He has since written other novels and been involved in a musical project. He was interviewed by the Security Service for his negative comments about Viktor Yanukovych, who was then president. He commented The only thing the people can do when the government harasses them with its actions is to swear and threaten.
