Zadie Smith

Biography

Zadie Smith was born Sadie Smith in London in 1975. She changed her name to Zadie when she was fourteen. Her father is English and her mother Jamaican. She studied English at King’s College, Cambridge. A publisher saw some of her stories in a student publication and offered her a contract for a novel. She completed this novel – White Teeth – by the end of her course at Cambridge. It was published in 2000 and was immediately successful. She has since published further novels.
