Agnès Desarthe

Biography

Agnès Desarthe was born Agnès Naouri in Paris in 1966. Her father is a pediatrician, born in Benghazi, Libya, in the Libyan Jewish community, but who was originally from Algeria, while her mother was descended from Ashkenazi Jews from Russia. She studied literature and language at the École Normale Supérieure. She married the director/producer Dante Desarthe. She worked initially as a translator from English, before writing children’s novels and then adult novels. She also worked with her editor on a TV progamme and then a book on Virginia Woolf .
