Timur Vermes was born in 1967 in Nuremberg. His father had fled from Hungary after the 1956 uprising. He studied history and politics at the University of Erlangen, before becoming a journalist. He has also worked as ghostwriter. His first novel – Er ist wieder da [He’s Back] – about Adolf Hitler suddenly being transported back to Berlin in 2011 had huge success in Germany.
