Nicola Pugliese

Biography

Nicola Pugliese was born in Milan in 1944. However, he spent most of his life in Naples. Like his father, he became a journalist, working for the Roma newspaper, which, despite its name, was based in Naples. He was discovered by Italo Calvino who arranged for his first novel, Malacqua (Malacqua), to be published. After the success of this novel, he retired to a small village – Avella – where he continued to write but was opposed to republication of Malacqua (Malacqua), which was only republished after his death in 2012.
