Soledad Puértolas

Biography

Soledad Puértolas was born in Zaragoza in 1947. She started studying political sciences in Madrid but had to discontinue for political reasons. She then studied economics in Bilboa but did not finish that course and then switched to journalism. She then moved to Trondheim with her husband and then to California where she took an M.A. in Spanish and Portuguese Language and Literature. Her son Diego Pita, also a writer, was born there. The family returned to Spain where Puértolas won a prize for her first novel. She has gone on to write numerous novels, stories and essays. One of her novels has been translated into English.
