Eleanor Catton

Biography

Eleanor Catton was born in 1985 in London, Canada, while her father, a New Zealander, was studying in Canada, and brought up in Christchurch, New Zealand. She studied English at the University of Canterbury, before completing a Masters in Creative Writing at The Institute of Modern Letters, Victoria University of Wellington. She later took an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, when she later taught. She has since returned to New Zealand, where she has held the Ursula Bethell Residency at the University of Canterbury and the University of Auckland Residency at the Michael King Writers Centre.
