Rohinton Mistry

Biography

Rohinton Mistry was born in 1952 in Bombay (now Mumbai). After taking a B. A. in maths and economics at the University of Bombay, he moved to Canada in 1975, working in a bank in Toronto. He returned to university, taking a degree in English and philosophy at the University of Toronto. It was while at university that he started writing stories and eventually published a collection of his stories, Tales from Firozsha Baag, in 1987, though it was not till he published his first novel that he gained recognition, including various awards and translation into other languages. His later novels also met with considerable success.
