Tremendismo

Tremendismo was a term coined as a result of Camilo José Cela‘s La familia de Pascual Duarte (Pascual Duarte’s Family, US: The Family of Pascual Duarte), with its focus on violence, eroticism and the marginalised side of society. The novel was written soon after the Spanish Civil War and it was the experience of the authors in the war that led to this style of writing. Other writers in this genre include Carmen Laforet and Darío Fernández Flórez.
