Edwidge Danticat

Biography

Edwidge Danticat was born in Port-au-Prince in 1969. Her parents emigrated to New York when she was very young and she was brought up by an aunt, who influenced her love for story-telling. At the age of twelve, she joined her parents in the USA. She took a B.A. in French literature from Barnard College. She completed a Master’s at Brown where her thesis was Breath, Eyes, Memory. Though a US citizen and writing in English, her work is very influenced by her native country. In addition to novels for adults, she has also written children’s books.
