Barry Hannah

Biography

Barry Hannah was born in Clinton, Mississippi in 1942. He took a B.A. from Mississippi College and a Master’s from the University of Arkansas. He taught creative writing at Clemson. He then taught briefly at Middlebury College in Vermont and then for five years at the University of Alabama. He worked in Hollywood writing scripts for Robert Altman. However, Hollywood did not appeal to him so after various one year stints at different universities, he became writer-in-residence at the University of Mississippi. He has written novels and short stories, many of which have been described as dark. He died in 2010.
