Benjamin Markovits was born in California in 1973. His parents were both lawyers. He grew up in London, Oxford, Texas and Berlin and briefly played professional basketball in Germany. He then did an M.Phil. on the Romantics and taught at a school in New York. He now teaches at Royal Holloway, University of London. He was named as one of Granta’s Best Young British Novelists.
