Elena Chizhova

Biography

Elena Chizhova was born in Leningrad in 1957. She taught production management and English, was editor of Всемирное слово, a literary journal, translator and essayist. Since being rescued from a burning cruise ship in 1996, she has changed her life and taken up writing. She has written several novels, which have won various prizes, including the Russian Booker for Время женщин (The Time of Women).
