Ludmila Ulitskaya

Biography

Ludmila Ulitskaya (also Lyudmila) was born in 1943 in Davlekanovo in Bashkiria. She took a master’s degree from the University of Moscow in biology and then worked as a geneticist. She worked for the Hebrew Theatre in Moscow as repertory director and scriptwriter. As well as novels, she has written for the theatre and cinema. She won the Russian Booker in 2001. She lives in Moscow.
