Bernardo Atxaga

Biography

Bernardo Atxaga – real name José Irazu Garmendia – was born in 1951 in Aesteasu near San Sebastián. His father was a carpenter and his mother a teacher. He studied economics at the University of Bilbao. He initially worked in a bank but has held various other jobs since. He has written novels both in Spanish and in Basque.
