Qurratulain Hyder

Biography

Qurratulain Hyder (also known as Qurratul’ain Haidar) writes in Urdu, which is why her work is so little known, though she has also written in English. Her آگ کا دریا (River of Fire) has been compared to Cien años de soledad (A Hundred Years of Solitude). She was born in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, in 1927 and died in 2007. She wrote novels and short stories as well as doing many translations.
